1. European Quilt-Triennale
sdfsdfdf

Since 1984 the Textilmuseum Max Berk in Heidelberg, Germany has organized a highly esteemed juried quilt show known as the (German) Quilt-Biennale. The rest of Europe has long lacked an equally internationally well reputed and recurring show, and in 2000 the organisers at Max Berk decided to open the competition on a Europe-wide level as the European Quilt Triennale. The idea was met with great enthusiasm from artists on the European art quilt scene. A counterpart to ‘American Quilt National’ and ‘Visions’ for European quilters had been long overdue and the number of submissions from 24 countries - all Europeans - showed that there was a great demand for this event.

The 1. European Quilt-Triennale became a fine European exhibition showing quilts that clearly distinguish themselves from their American counterparts by a greater simplicity of expression with less surface embellishment than is common on today’s American art quilts.
